From the American Civil War to the conflicts of the early twenty-first century, the photographer has been a constant presence, preserving moments of courage, dignity, defiance and hope amidst pain and suffering. Humanity in War is a photographic record of warfare over the last 150 years. It traces the evolution of the ICRC since its inception 1859; it also touches upon the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. But it goes beyond documentation. Every image in the book urges us to reach out and help one another.
This book accompanies the Humanity in War exhibition being held at the National War Museum, Edinburgh. (starting 25th February 2011)
