Product Description

Ancient Glass in National Museums Scotland catalogues the extensive collection of glass vessels, objects and fragments from late Bronze Age to the Middle Ages to be found in National Museums Scotland. The collection has been assembled over the past 150 years and is based largely on East Mediterranean pieces.

An introductory essay on the history of ancient glassmaking is included, plus a chronological catalogue following the major technical developments in the manufacture of glass in the ancient world.

Author C S Lightfoot is Associate Curator, Department of Greek and Roman Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
