This new Scottie book explains the complex topic of the Covenanters for children of 10+.
Charles I believed that a king was given his position by God and that no one had the right to question his actions. He also believed that, as king, he was head of the church in Scotland as well as in England.
When he came to the throne in 1625 he began, without consultation, to make changes in the way Scotland was run, including the introduction of a new prayer book. Petitions were made against this, and a document known as the National Covenant was drawn up.
In words and pictures the book tells of the struggles of the Covenanters, their beliefs, their battles and the aftermath of the movement.
'Claire Watts leads us carefully through a complex, but fascinating, slice of Scotland's history ... a superb addition to the Scotties series, ideal for all ages!'
