These notelets have been produced exclusively by the National Museum of Scotland for our exhibition Embroidered Stories: Scottish Samplers.
The set features beautifully intricate designs from a sampler created by Isabel Swan in 1748.
This neatly boxed set includes 8 cards, 4 of each design; perfect for thank you notes, and sending greetings to friends.
The red and green lettering is almost identical to the sampler stitched by Jean Swan in 1752; these members of the Swan family were clearly guided by the same teacher! Both samplers illustrate the typical characteristics of Scottish lettering embellished with double running stitch.
