Scottish Sampler Tea Towel
New

Scottish Sampler Tea Towel £8.99

Description

This charming tea towel has been created exclusively for our Embroidered Stories: Scottish Samplers exhibition. The folksy design is a replica of a sampler embroidered in Orkney by Mary Bews in 1877, and is a lovely example of the style of samplers created by young women in the Northern Isles of Scotland around this time.

The Roman alphabet, and Mary's family initials fill the top half, and the lower half of the sampler is comprised of traditional motifs such as flowers, crowns, a small house and animals. Mary graciously included her birthday, which proved to be accurate!
