Description

Walter Scott's novels and poems reveal his view of history and the influences that made him. He was obsessed with the Borders lands and the exploits of his ancestry as he loved and lived through stories - his own as well as those he imagined. These stories were vital to his sense of place and sense of self; he could be said to be constantly 'inventing himself'. There is also his life story written after his death by his son-in-law, and the reminiscences of those who knew him.
